Urban Safety
Feminism
Awareness
Public Space
Approach
The foundation was a several-month research phase involving surveys, expert interviews and a workshop on feminist cartography. This led to the idea of using the public restroom as the site of intervention, a retreat space where attention naturally turns to one’s surroundings.
The website serves as a space for further engagement with the topic. It comprises three areas: information for awareness-raising, a reporting tool for sexual harassment and emergency contacts and safety codes. I coded and developed the website with Claude.
Short Description
(Un)gezähmt is an intervention promoting urban safety for women by raising awareness among men. The campaign uses public restrooms as its site of intervention and consists of two poster series along with an accompanying website.

Problem Definition
Women often feel unsafe in urban spaces and restricted in their freedom of movement. This is primarily caused by the behavior of men. However, the responsibility for this is typically placed on women themselves, when in fact the root causes lie in structural sexism and patriarchal power structures. This is why men need to be made aware of the lived realities women face.

Poster Series for Women
Women are meant to be encouraged toward a zero-tolerance attitude regarding sexual harassment and informed about existing safety measures. Tear-off tabs offer quick help and a QR code on the back leads to further support resources.

Poster series for All Genders
A voting poster, placed in front of gender-separated restrooms, poses a specific question to encourage all genders toward an initial reflection on the topic and to create greater visibility for other lived realities.
